5. Why should I bother?

In 1997 a study was carried out to see what the participants from Europe and Australia thought were the benefits of their collaboration.. a selection of the responses showed that there were four main drivers - strategic, managerial, technical and personal. A selection of quotes from the study will serve to show what current collaborators thought were the key benefits.  Interestingly enough, funding was not a consideration - at least not in terms of seeking funds from the project partners.

·        Positioning in a world recognized collaborative project

·        International exposure

·        Inside access to all sectors involved in project

·        Become known in an emerging international market

·        Opportunity to introduce new technology to Australia

·        Leverage with your home funding bodies

·        Participation in exchange of researchers

·        Possible employment prospects

·        Opportunity to compare models with Best Available Technology
