LAUNCH OF EU SCHOOL CURRICULUM RESOURCES
THURSDAY 20 AUGUST 2009

Hon Anne Tolley, Minister of Education
EU School Curriculum Resources launched in New Zealand
In the presence of Hon Anne Tolley, Minister of Education, George Cunningham, Chargé d'Affaires a.i.of the EC Delegation to New Zealand and Professor Martin Holland, Director of the EU Centres Network in New Zealand, the first batch of EU teaching resources were launched in the social science subjects of economics, geography and history for New Zealand secondary schools. Speaking before an audience at the EC Delegation which included diplomats from all EU embassies in Wellington, Honorary Consuls and 20 local schools in the region, the Minister said: "International education is an important aspect of the Curriculum. Resources such as the one we are here to launch today help enhance the quality of teaching, build human capital, and strengthen our education partnerships. In turn, this helps build a strong economy and society for New Zealand. So I am delighted to see this initiative so strongly supported. It is an excellent example of how international programmes and dimensions can be integrated into how and what we learn. I thank the Delegation of the European Union, and the Network of European Centres in New Zealand for their work in the development of these curriculum resources". Mr George Cunningham thanked the Ministry of Education for its support in getting the initiative off the ground, which will now be piloted in New Zealand schools for ongoing development among teachers and students.
