The European Union's environment and energy priorities are interlinked. In March 2007, the Heads of State and Government of the EU's 27 Member States agreed on an integrated climate and energy policy, backed up by a detailed action plan. This was an unprecedented step that made the EU unique across the globe for having binding, regional targets for energy and climate policy.

Environment

The EU's environment priorities primarily include combating climate change, preventing the loss of biodiversity, fostering eco-innovation, and tackling issues such as air and water pollution, waste generation and the unsustainable use of resources.

Energy

The European Union aims to secure a stable energy supply for Europe and meet its current environmental challenges while at the same time giving consumers a chance to buy electricity and gas at affordable prices. >>more....
