Erasmus Mundus 2008 - introducing the winners
Since 2004, through the Erasmus Mundus Scheme, the European Commission has offered graduate students and scholars from around the world a truly European experience of higher education. Erasmus Mundus is based on the hugely successful Erasmus exchange program which has enabled over a million European students to study at other European universities. As part of the EU's agenda to promote the outstanding quality of European higher education institutions throughout the world, students and scholars from third countries, such as Australia and New Zealand, are encouraged to apply for the generous Erasmus Mundus scholarships to enable them to take part in specially designed Erasmus Mundus Masters Degree Programs. These programs involve several Universities from across the EU and also offer the possibility for third countries to be partners in the program.
While the main language of instruction is usually English, local language courses are offered which makes the Erasmus Mundus experience even more valuable
The current Erasmus Mundus Scheme is coming to an end but Erasmus Mundus II will start in 2009 and will be expanded to include PhD scholarships.
And it's not just about students! Academics can also take part in Erasmus Mundus and receive a generous scholarship to spend up to 3 months teaching and researching at the institutions involved in the Consortia.
In 2008/9 forty-six Australians and four New Zealanders were granted an Erasmus Mundus scholarship and the Delegation of the European Union to Australia and New Zealand is delighted to introduce them to you and hope that their success will encourage others to apply!
