  • Submitted application to accede to the EU in late 1995.
  • In 2000 economic growth increased rapidly to 7.1%, driven by economic integration with the EU.
  • Leading country for internet connections per capita among the associate members of the EU, with 64.7 internet hosts per 1000 persons.
  • Australia has the fourth largest community of Estonians abroad - approx. 10,000.
  • Exports to Estonia from Australia peaked at A$7.9 million in FY1997-98.
  • Imports from Estonia rose dramatically to an all-time high of A$17.8 million in 1998-99, consisting almost entirely of telecommunications equipment, but have since fallen.
  • Negotiations continue on reciprocal arrangements for Working Holiday Scheme for Young Australians / Young Estonians, which was signed on 20 September 2004, and will come into force early in 2005.
