The Contemporary Europe Research Centre (CERC) is an interdisciplinary research Centre located in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne. The Centre is also an EU awarded Jean Monnet Centre for Excellence.
CERC crosses both national and disciplinary boundaries. As well as bringing together expertise from across the University of Melbourne, CERC collaborates closely with other Universities, Research Institutes and Centres, both in Australia and throughout the world. Its brief is not confined to the European Union but runs as far afield as Russia and the ex Soviet States of Eurasia.
CERC brings together people interested in aspects of European Studies from all over the university, and also other universities in Australia. It is primarily a research centre whose mission is to facilitate research, discussion and associations between academics and postgraduates in the field. To this end it has a vibrant public lecture series, runs international conferences and workshops and also has a publications program. It also produces a regular and free email bulletin to keep scholars abreast of happenings in the area both within Australia and abroad.
CERC also has a visitors programme and provides support to PhD and Masters students attached to CERC or associated with it. CERC also has its own library and electronic data base.
